So, what was the mandate I was working to when I went looking for the best mower for my money?
I wanted a state of the art electric mower that was easy to use, and powerful enough to use on medium to large lawns.
My test lawn is 90’ by 30’ so there is a lot ground to cover, and that has always given me a major problem, no matter what mower I have used in the past, and that problem was…..
Clippings.
A lawn that size generates green bag after green bag full of grass clippings that I have to deal with, and I’ve toyed with buying a mulcher in the past so that I can chop up all the grass clippings as finely as possible, but that’s been on the back burner because of the added cost.
The size of the lawn also means me having to make frequent trips to empty the grass container of any given mower, so a large capacity grass box was a must – I find there’s nothing worse than having to stop half way down a cut to go empty the grassbox and start again.
The mower had to be light enough and easy to move about, as the wrong mower can make me dread having to lug it about for a half hour or more,purely because it’s too heavy and badly designed.
It needed to be easily adjustable if I decided to alter the grass cut height, and being electric, I needed a long cord that was easy to manipulate safely.
I also like stripes on a lawn, I just think it looks so classy and worth the effort to have a lawn that looks like it has been professionally looked after, and a feature that would let me know exactly how much grass was in the grassbox would be a ‘nice to have.’
And last but not least, I wanted it to be ‘future proof’.
It doesn’t matter what I buy lately, but it seems that as soon as I’ve unpacked it, there’s another model introduced, with more features, that I wished I’d waited to buy.
So I needed it to be feature packed, (I’ve had enough of ‘buyers remorse’).
So Why Did I Choose The Flymo 360XC As My Best Buy?
Well, for a start, I’m happy with the Flymo brand. Flymo were the inventors of the original hovermower more than 40 years ago, and they’ve continued to innovate ever since.
The 360XC is the latest in a long line of Flymo mowers that utilise a metal cutting blade (a lot easier and more efficient than those replaceable nylon blades).

That’s the techie stuff out of the way, but I need to show you just how well the Flymo 360XC fitted my bill……
Overview
When I looked at the features of the 360XC it ticked every one of the boxes I’d set myself as my ‘perfect mower criteria.
It has a fully adjustable metal blade with a height reach of between 1/2” and 2.5”.
✓ It effectively cuts long, wet grass.
✓ One simple lever easily adjusts the cutting height.
✓The 360XC has a Rear Roller for stripes and cutting over edges of the lawn effectively.
✓ It has it’s own built in vision window so I can see how much grass has been collected.
✓ Grass cuttings are finely chopped which saves me time and effort.
✓ Cuttings are then compressed and compressed inside the grass box as you mow.
✓ It has Flymo’s built in ‘Easi Reel’ facility, that automatically rewinds the 15m lead.
And best of all…..It Mulches! I don’t have to buy a seperate mulcher, the Flymo does it all for me!
All I have to do is detach the grass box and fit the Mulch Plug that comes with the machine, and the 360XC will fine chop the grass, and redistribute the fine clippings back onto the lawn…..a boon during dry spells.
To find a mower that did everything I wanted it to do was worth all the effort of trawling the web and checking out the competition.
The Flymo 360XC cuts, compacts, mulches and rollers the lawn to give that professional gardener look I love so much, and at the price I’ve found, you really can’t go wrong.

I had my heart set on a cylinder mower after my black and decker rotary, and petrol rotary had both packed up. Research and reviews however dissuaded me from the popular Qualcast cylinder, and pointed me in the direction of the Bosch Rotak range. I bought one yesterday and, despite having wet grass, mowed both my lawns.
The results were really impressive, with the height adjustment easy, the mower being very light and manoevreable, and the collection box doing exactly what its mean to do.
